Version 10 of ForexSteam is now available for download from the main ForexSteam member's area. I haven't tested it as yet, but I aim to do so as soon as I find time. In the meantime, if anyone here manages to test it and can post any comparisons with V9 I'd very much appreciate it. EDIT: Changes identified:
- Added spread filter (default=100 points).
- Removed news filter.
- TradeBalance parameter removed (no idea what this did).
- Hedge function removed (didn't work properly anyway!).

I would be happy to test (just downloaded), but didn't they say that you can't back test due to live market conditions not being taken into account?

I'll test it as well. Hopefully we'll see an improvement. More to come...

Yes, that's what they say, but I don't believe it - I think it's another piece of BS they can point to when people complain about poor back test results. I've only found a handful of indicators and EAs that can't be backtested, and they have always been because they are monitoring multiple currencies and using differencies in order to determine which pairs to trade at any given time. To my knowledge, ForexSteam doesn't do this, so I'm at a loss as to what 'live market conditions' they could be referring to. In fact, I asked then to clarify this a couple of years back and all I got in reply was a very vague answer that didn't really answer my question at all.

OK, I ran my first test with Jan 2018-June 2019 Light EURUSD default settings and got a PF of 1.18, ugh. Made a total of $10777.96 on $10,000 in 18 months.
How can I post the report image?

Oh, really? Hmmm, if true doesn't put them in a good light. I will ask as well and see what response I get. OK, I've got some good initial results, possibilities here especially if the backtests are valid (as PaulDV is saying they should be). For EURUSD, 24h trading: but for GBPUSD, 24h trading: Much nicer Will do more testing through the day and post some more later... Cheers, Mark

This is actually very encouraging. The default setting on V9 was very poor. Maybe we have something here.
I didn't get in until late yesterday, but I'll try and get some test completed tonight. Thanks, Mark!

Cheers, Mark Interesting, but I see that you've used a fixed spread of 2 points. If you switch this to variable and test again, you will find the results are awful, making a 28% loss on EURUSD and 20% loss on GBPUSD. I cannot seem to get ANY good results from the new version.

OK, can you give me a little background on fixed/variable? Does this mean using 'current' instead of 2?

OK, can you give me a little background on fixed/variable? Does this mean using 'current' instead of 2? No, I assume you're using Tick Data Suite for testing, yes? If so, then you need to click on the Tick data settings button, and then check the Use variable spread checkbox. This will use the spread as it was at the time the tick data was generated. It's more accurate, and I have seen EAs with amazing results get completely trashed when variable spread is introduced...EA vendors often use fixed spread to generate fake back test results.

Yes, I have tick data. OK, I retested with variable spread, results considerably worse Just ugh. 43% and 50% DD to make a few thousand in 18 months? That's 3-4%/month. Hrumph.

I decided to try the 'normal' EA with EURUSD, got some very surprising results. I'm wondering if they have a component of martingale built in? Wow!

OK, I'm running through the optimizer now with GBPUSD using variable spread and getting some possibilities that look pretty good. I've set it to maxspread = 25 and getting around $30k of profit in 18 months (on $10k initially with SL45 TP6) when trading all hours EXCEPT for the asian session. The asian session wasn't looking good to trade (no idea why, have to do more testing!) so I removed it.
There is a lot of testing to do, lots of variables. Paul, if you want to coordinate I would be happy to get on a call and work out some details and then go away and test and bring our results back together again - divide and conquer style. But we'll have to coordinate to make it efficient. Having a consistent test plan/approach will be important - stuff like the spread etc. or else we won't be able to compare apples to apples. Let me know what you think...
Thanks,
Mark
